Ever felt overwhelmed with the pressure of not knowing what to do next for the better?
Do you stay in your job which you’ve been in for so many years, or do you pursue your dream of gaining a qualification, and moving on to a career you would love?
Do you ask for the promotion or do you set up your own business and gain all the profits for yourself, which could be much more?
Periodically, we start to consider the need for change in our lives and are triggered by the smallest of things sometimes! Triggers can come from a family get together, a constant stream of bills, an argument or discussion, a course or even a surprise of some kind! Any of these could inspire you or drive you to consider ways in which you need to or should start to change your life. This is where you need to set some SMART goals! This is how:
CONSIDER YOUR AIM: what do you want to achieve overall? For example, you may want to set up your own business or move home or make more money.
SPECIFIC – get specific on what you want to achieve. For example, if you want to set up your own business, you need to consider exactly what type of business based on your skills and expertise, qualifications if appropriate but most of all what area you would love to work in!
MEASURABLE – your goal has to be measurable. Consider ways in which you will be able to look back and say that you have absolutely been able to achieve what you set out to. For example, you could say that you want to complete a course, start trading on a set date or earn a set amount of money.
ACHIEVABLE – your goal should be achievable in every sense of the word. It shouldn’t be something that would be too much for you to achieve in the first place. They must be achievable otherwise you will be setting yourself up for inevitable failure.
REALISTIC – it must be realistic to achieve! If you want to open a business selling holidays, it would be wise for you to have some knowledge in general geography, qualifications to do so, knowledge of the processes needed to complete a travel booking or the will to do so in the first place!
TIME SPECIFIC – you should always make sure that there is a time limit on achieving your goals. Normally, goals are set over the period of a year.
What ever you decide that you want, good luck!
Much love, SJ
